Erosion Control

Project category

Erosion Control

Soil stabilized with Terra Lock and Gabion Baskets to protect landscapes and restore ecosystems, with native plantings that support biodiversity.

Category overview

What this work involves.

Erosion control work stabilizes soil with Terra Lock and Gabion Baskets, assessed against site-specific conditions and paired with native plantings that promote biodiversity.

Typical applications include highway slopes, coastal reclamation and mining site restoration, where the objective is long-lasting protection with minimal maintenance.

Typical scope

  • Soil stabilization with Terra Lock
  • Gabion Basket installation
  • Slope protection on highway corridors
  • Mining site restoration
  • Native planting and revegetation

Erosion Control

Access road construction, tower pad development, cactus and succulent salvage and large-scale seeding along a high-voltage transmission corridor. Sand Stone participated as a subcontractor.

  • New access road construction
  • Tower pad site development
  • Succulent salvage and temporary nursery management
  • Broadcast and drill seeding
  • Revegetation across multiple vegetation zones

Challenge

The corridor crossed several distinct desert vegetation zones with protected succulents inside the right-of-way, requiring salvage, holding and replanting alongside heavy access-road construction.

Solution

Crews salvaged all succulents within 24 feet of the right-of-way and maintained them in temporary nurseries for post-construction replanting, while access roads and tower pads were built and later reseeded by zone using both broadcast and drill seeding.

Construction process

  1. 01

    Salvage

Succulents within 24 feet of the right-of-way were salvaged and moved to temporary nurseries.

  2. 02

    Access & Pads

Over 80 miles of new access roads and 140 acres of tower pad sites were constructed.

  3. 03

    Seeding

Broadcast and drill seeding performed across 1,300 acres of several vegetation zones.

  4. 04

    Replanting

More than 40,000 salvaged plants were held and returned to the corridor after construction.

Erosion Control

Development of a 50-acre solar field with erosion control and environmental protection measures for endangered species. Sand Stone participated as a subcontractor.

  • 50-acre solar field development
  • Erosion and sediment control
  • Endangered species protection measures
  • Culvert and channel installation
  • Terra Lock stabilization and Dust Lock dust suppression

Challenge

Construction had to proceed across a 50-acre field while preserving endangered species habitat and managing drainage and fugitive dust on open, disturbed ground.

Solution

Comprehensive erosion and environmental measures were installed alongside 14 large culverts and channels, with Terra Lock applied for surface stabilization and Dust Lock for dust suppression across the working area.

Construction process

  1. 01

    Environmental Controls

Protection measures established for endangered species prior to disturbance.

  2. 02

    Drainage

14 large culverts and channels installed to manage site drainage.

  3. 03

    Stabilization

Terra Lock applied to stabilize surfaces across the solar field.

  4. 04

    Dust Control

Dust Lock applied for ongoing fugitive dust suppression.
